CONGRESO INTERNACIONAL DE JÓVENES INVESTIGADORES

THREE DIFFERENT IDEAS TO IMPROVE OUR QUALITY OF LIFE AND HEALTH

The 29th edition of the Congreso Internacional de Jóvenes Investigadores was held from April 6 through 9, 2021 in Zaragoza, Spain. It welcomed 5 laureates from the national Jonk Fuerscher contest - through an online platform - to present their individual projects. This year’s congress saw participations from 16 different countries from Brazil through Slovakia all the way to Indonesia.

The Fondation Jeunes Scientifiques Luxembourg (FJSL) was represented by Aayush Pramanik (14) from the Lycée Michel Lucius, Alexandre Hoffmann (14) from the Lycée Français Jean Monnet de Bruxelles, and Kilian Lorenzen (13) and Jonas Baltramaitis (13) both from the European School I, who all four of them had been awarded the Mobisciences Spain award during the 2021 national Jonk Fuerscher contest and were thus given the opportunity to present the following projects in Spain (click on the title of each project to watch the presentation):

  • The Effects of Alternative Medicine on Two Types of Bacteria: Aayush’s project compared the effectiveness of different alternative medicines - plant-based like Eucalyptus and homeopathic like Belladonna - on two different types of Bacteria, the Escherichia coli and pre-bred Bacillus Subtilis.

  • The Anopheles Project: The objective of Alexandre’s project is to incapacitate mosquitoes that transmit diseases (such as Dengue, Malaria, Zika, etc.), mainly in third world countries, by building a video laser device to detect and kill mosquitos, without disrupting people’s sleep.

  • Pro-Back Posture Corrector: Kilian and Jonas built a posture correcting device that subconsciousely trains the mind by triggering a stimulus when the person wearing it sits in a poor posture. The aim being that this kind of positive conditioning causes a long-term permanent change in posture.

My participation in the ICIJA Congress for Young researchers was the first international event that i got to present my project to. I really enjoyed every single aspect of the week long event - various interesting projects, the International Night, the virtual escape room and virtual tour of Zaragoza. These activities gave us an opportunity to get to know each other, the city of Zaragoza and projects that all the participants were working on, all while keeping it fun and engaging for everyone involved”, so Aayush.

The Congreso Internacional de Jóvenes Investigadores is a a non-competitive event to promote the scientific and cultural exchange among young people, organised by the Instituto de Ciencia e Investigación Juvenil de Aragón (ICIJA), a partner of the Mobisciences programme, led by the FJSL and supported by the European Commission (Anefore agency). This programme was launched in 2018 and brings together partner organisations from France, Spain, Belgium and Morocco, all with the objective of contributing to the development of scientific culture among young people aged 12 to 25 through these activities.
