Emmanuel Petit

Architect - Jean Petit Architectes SA

Learning as a young scientist to take things seriously !

With three participations in the Jonk Fuerscher competition between 1986 and 1988, Mr Petit remembers with nostalgia these years of discovery of the scientific world.

Emanuel Petit, first participated in the competition in 1986 with his project "Measurements on light reflections on surfaces". A project that led him to discover Paris, its Cité des Sciences and a meeting with the Dean, his trips on a fly boat... a trip that marked our young scientist! Having the opportunity to meet new young colleagues during this trip, the discovery of a robotics project will convince him to participate the following year with his own model: "Practical application of the magnetic force with the example of a computer-controlled organ-playing robot".

During a third participation with a project entitled: "Electroencephalographic study of sleep with regard to reactions to sensory stimuli", our young participant will have the opportunity to use professional equipment put at his disposal by some benevolent actors. This third project will lead him to study the sleep of fellow volunteers, invited to spend the night at his place for the purpose of the experiment!

This last project will take him to Copenhagen to represent Luxembourg where he will have the chance to participate in many visits and workshops under the theme of LEGO, the main partner of the event.

During our interview, Mr Petit declared that the competition allowed him to integrate by practice the fact that devoting himself to an activity seriously can lead to beautiful things, to develop organisational skills for the implementation of experiments and the preparation of his report. Finally, he will note the goodwill shown to him when he mentioned his participation in the national competition, and the support and interest he received from the professionals of the time. A precious help for the completion of his projects.

Following the competition, Mr Petit embarked on the path of architecture, which he still practises today in the firm Jean Petit ARCHITECTES as Partner based in Moutfort Luxembourg, after having passed through research thanks to a doctorate in architectural theory.
